Process tracing of extensive and intensive processes

ABSTRACT

This essay briefly analyzes the introduction of process tracing to the political science and political economy methodological toolkit. It then proposes a theory-guided variant of process tracing and distinguishes between its application in extensive and intensive type of processes. It argues that the comparative advantage of process tracing vis-à-vis other social sciences research methods lies in its potential to uncover the causal mechanisms that link the constitutive events of intensive type of processes. It shows that theory-guided process tracing of intensive processes can be successfully applied to illustrate, test and produce theory.     

Two Extensive Margins of Credit and Loan‐to‐Value Policies

We analyze a model of mortgage markets, housing tenure choice, heterogeneous agents, and default with closed form solutions. We uncover new insights which may inspire empirical work, and we ground already established insights in a series of tractable expressions. Then we study optimal loan‐to‐value (LTV) regulation and show that the choice of an LTV cap should balance the opposing forces of access to homeownership and the negative externalities associated with default. Homeownership affordability concerns induce procyclical elements into optimal regulation which attenuate the countercyclical regulation justified by the negative default externalities.     

基于利润率的产业结构趋同问题研究

改革开放以来,我国经济迅速发展。但在经济快速发展的同时,一些地区间的产业分布比较相似,因而产业结构趋同问题越来越成为人们关注的一个热点。本研究从区位基尼系数与利润率之间关系的角度来分析产业结构趋同问题。分析表明,在1987-2000年间所选行业里,绝大多数行业的利润率与区位基尼系数呈负相关关系;最后得出,我国此阶段的行业分布变化总体上是符合利润率规律的。     

粗放型经济增长模式对中国的环境及环境政策的影响

文章简要阐述了中国环境政策的发展及其局限性,探讨了中国以往粗放型经济发展模式对环境的损害,以及这种经济发展模式对环境政策形成的制约机制。文章认为,从长远来看,进行经济结构调整,转变经济发展模式,并以此为基础进行环境政策改革,是改善中国的经济与环境关系的基本途径。     

Assessing bank equity risk under Legacy Loan Program

We study the effects of purchasing distressed loan on bank equity risk under the Legacy Loan Program (LLP), in which the government is in partnership with private investors. The bank may refuse LLP when its knock-out value is too low. When the bank decides to participate in the LLP, the participation of a private investor generates a decrease in bank interest margin and an increase in equity risk, but the knock-out value with the LLP assistance generates an increase in bank interest margin and a decrease in equity risk. Our results suggest that the success of LLP depends critically on the willingness of a weak bank to participate in it. However, the participation of a private investor in LLP does not decrease the weak bank’s equity risk but poses instability to the banking system.     

我国财产保险偿付能力监管制度变迁分析——制度经济学视角

我国财产保险偿付能力监管制度的变迁是一种政府主导型的制度变迁。本文从制度经济学角度分析,运用戴维斯、诺斯和林毅夫关于制度变迁的理论,从制度选择集合的改变、监管资源相对价格的变化、技术进步和克服对风险的厌恶四个方面,论述我国财产保险偿付能力制度变迁目的是以提高监管效能、降低监管成本,从而提高整个社会福利为目的制度变迁过程,以期通过理论洞察来为进一步推进我国偿付能力监管制度提供一些有益的思考。     

《旅行社条例》及其影响述评
